Action Needed – Support I-35 Capital Express Central

Test

We urgently need your support. TxDOT has released the final design for the long-awaited redesign of I-35 Capital Express Central and is accepting public comments. Many communities around the state are hoping we lose the $4.9B in state funding so that they can fund their own projects. We need your help sending as many positive comments as possible to secure that this transformational project goes forward.

I-35 through downtown is one of the most congested highways in Texas. Austinites spend hours in traffic, missing time with family and friends. In fact, the trip that should take drivers 8 minutes to travel between US 290 and SH 71/Ben White Boulevard takes 20 minutes in the morning peak period and nearly 40 minutes in the evening peak period.

With your help, the Chamber and Opportunity Austin have consistently advocated for a re-design of I-35 through central Austin. We need to ensure that TxDOT knows there is community support for improving I-35 so that we can finally move forward with construction. Addressing our mobility challenges now will allow us to continue to strengthen and diversify our economy and create more opportunities for Central Texans.

Help us send as many positive comments as possible to ensure that this transformational project goes forward.

Dear Chairman Bugg and Commissioners:

Thank you for recognizing that I-35 through Austin is one of the most congested roadway segments in the State of Texas. As this seriously outdated roadway is often called the Main Street of Texas, all Texans should call for bold and decisive action to transform this critical stretch of infrastructure into a roadway that will accommodate the rapid and immense growth we are experiencing in our great State.

Accordingly, I am writing today to express my complete support for the I-35 Capital Express Central design as proposed by TxDOT.

Thank you for your consideration of this request.
