NOTE: During 2019, The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine® (HWOL) program changed its data source (such as adding Glassdoor and Indeed). While the HWOL series has maintained consistency in its methodology, the differences between the two data sources will impact the July 2019 report henceforth.
Job Postings measured in this report refers to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.
There were approximately 55,200 Available Job Postings during the Jun 2020 monthly reporting period, an increase of approximately 5,000 postings compared to the previous month. New Job Postings also increased by 4,300 to 24,700 when compared to May 2020.
21 percent or about 11,800 of the Available Job Postings during the June reporting period fell under Computer and Mathematical Occupations. There were 4,700 New Job Postings for Computer and Mathematical Occupations in June. There has also been an increase in security-related data/network occupations and job seekers can look into local cyber-security apprenticeships that are registered with the U.S. Department of Labor and supported by the Texas Workforce Commission.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 7.5% or 90,900 unemployed in June 2020, an increase of 84,800 people employed when compared to the previous month of May 2020. The unemployment rate was 11.4% or 133,200 unemployed in May 2020. The current civilian labor force for the Austin MSA in June 2020 is 1,214,600, a slight increase of 42,550 when compared to May 2020. When compared to June 2019, there are 56,200 more people unemployed this June.
The top 15 New Job Postings in June 2020 were for Software Developers-Applications, Sales Representatives-Wholesale and Manufacturing, Retail Salespersons, Customer Service Representatives, Managers-All Others, Registered Nurses, First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Computer Systems Engineers/Architects, Marketing Managers, Maintenance and Repair Workers-General, Information Security Analysts, Web Developers, Combined Food Preparation and Serving Workers-Including Fast Food, Laborers and Freight-Stock and Material Movers-Hand and Management Analysts.
More jobs ahead. Companies have recently announced new relocation or expansion plans in the Austin MSA, representing about 1,264 jobs. Amazon Fulfillment Center (Seattle, WA), Canva (Sydney, Australia), FileTrail (San Jose, CA), Special Products & Mfg. (Rockwell, TX) and Vilua Healthcare (Berlin, Germany) are the companies that have announced new location plans in Austin. The expansion list includes Amplify Snack Brands, Aspire Food Group, Bractlet, CognitOps, Hubbell Control Solutions, Icon, Natera, Q2 Software and TeleVet.
