In May, there will be eight City of Austin propositions on the ballot. Proposition F seeks to change the current governing model of a city council and city manager to one which would eliminate the position of city manager and designate an elected mayor as the chief administrative and executive officer of the city with veto power.
- Of large Texas cities, only Houston has a mayor-council form of government.
- If approved, City Council would be designated the “legislative body of the city” and the mayor “shall execute the laws and administer the government of the city.”
- Mayor would gain veto power and Council would have opportunity to override vetoes.
Join us for a discussion examining the pros and cons of both options, moderated by KVUE's Quita Culpepper. When you go to the polls, be informed on the issues that will shape the future of Austin city government.
