Phoenix 2009
Individual topics discussed included regional transportation supported by the Valley Metro Bus System and the country's newest light rail, billions of dollars for new highway infrastructure secured by the Maricopa Association of Governments and the academic collaboration that resulted in the recent addition of the University of Arizona's Medical School to downtown Phoenix. Additional programs exploring Phoenix's ambitious downtown development strategic plan, spotlights on the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa and Glendale, regional collaboration of law enforcement entities, regional sustainability best practices, and economic development incentives were also part of the three day initiative.
The 2009 InterCity trip highlighted Phoenix's thriving regionalism (regional collaboration of law enforcement entities, regional sustainability best practices, and economic development incentives), its successful initiative to acquire a medical school, and its robust transportation system.
