We are dedicated to providing early career opportunities for students, and this summer, over 30 chamber businesses opened their doors and hosted 180 high school students throughout Travis County. In addition, we partnered with AISD to pilot a paid high school professional internship program providing students with soft skills training, networking opportunities, and mentorship from career professionals.

2025 Program Details:

  • Summer interns will work 20 hours a week for 6 weeks from June 9 to July 25, 2025.
  • Students will be paid approximately $13/hour through two stipends.
  • Students receive course credit through the completion of a capstone project.
  • Students receive 2 days of professional career training to prepare them for the workplace.
  • To participate, businesses are asked to make a $2,500 donation to Austin ISD’s EdFund which will go towards compensating students and program costs.
  • Students are supported by certified teachers who act as career coaches and meet with students weekly.

Ways to Support the Program:

  • Host an intern at your business for the summer
  • Sponsor a student by making a donation to AISD to place a student with a non-profit.
  • Share the program with your network

AISD High School Professional Internship

In the summer of 2024, we partnered with AISD to create a 7-week professional internship program (which ran from early June to the end of July), where local partner businesses provided rising 10th-12th grade students with work experience, skills development, and mentorship. Students were paid $13 an hour and worked 20 hours a week at their assigned location. In 2024, 36 students from 7 high schools participated in the program, interning across 12 businesses.
